Homemade Irish Cream, Gossip Girl, and Free Labels!

Confession time: I’ve been binge watching Gossip Girl on Netflix (Canadian Netflix is years behind the times, we only just got it), and the trouble with binge watching is that it gets under my skin.

At heart, I am obviously a Vanessa. I’m pursuing a million creative endeavours, have creative and supportive parents and am clearly the nicest person on the show. Not that it’s hard. But sometimes Blair Waldorf gets to me. I start getting a bit bummed that my boyfriend has never dropped me off at Harry Winston before whisking me away to a gala where I’m wearing Valentino. He’s never traded me for a hotel either, but you take the good with the bad, right? Maybe?

Either way, after a couple episodes, a drink was clearly in order. However, it was a wee bit too early for a glass of wine, and definitely to early for something stronger. I’m no Chuck Bass. But a spiked coffee? That doesn’t seem bad at all.

So I made Irish cream, better known as homemade Baileys, and hot damn is it delicious. So delicious, in fact, that I made a very large amount and bottled it up for some friends as a festive present. And I made some cute little labels to top the whole thing off.  It’s a perfect hostess gift, and the perfect thing to have in the fridge when some friends pop by. It’s also a great way to wake you’re non-cheating-hotel-trading-boyfriend up on a Sunday morning.

All of a sudden, I’m feeling much better about myself. I may not be wearing Louboutins but I do mix a mean drink.

Irish Cream

  • 1 cup Whipping Cream
  • 1 can Sweetened Condensed Cream
  • 1 cup Irish Whiskey (Or Canadian Rye if you’re partial to that sort of thing.)
  • 1 oz Espresso
  • 1 Tbsp Vanilla Extract.

In a blender mix all the ingredients for 30 seconds.

Pour into a glass container and store, covered, for up to two weeks.
