The ‘Hocus Pocus’ Reunion Will Show the Sanderson Sisters in 2020

The cast and loads of guest stars will perform new scripted content tomorrow night.

Update, October 29th, 2020, 9:40 a.m. ET: This won’t just be some ordinary Zoom call. Bette Midler is spilling details about tomorrow night’s Hocus Pocus reunion, and it’s clear that she, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy will reprise their roles and perform new scripted content. So, with trick-or-treating and Halloween parties canceled, this is really saving spooky season.

During her October 28th virtual appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Midler, who played Winifred Sanderson, confirmed that they’ve written a new script for the “In Search of the Sanderson Sisters: A Hocus Pocus Hulaween Takeover” event. So, the Sanderson Sisters will be back in 2020, and given the “black river” moment in the original movie, it’s safe to say that they’ll be confused.

Midler also noted that other original cast members will be back, including Thora Birch. Plus, there will be guest appearances by Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Jennifer Hudson, John Stamos as the handsome devil, and more.

See her whole talk show appearance and get all the details in the video above. You can still buy $10 tickets (for charity) to the event here.

Update, October 19th, 2020, 10:17 a.m. ET: Bette Midler unofficially lit the black flame candle because it sure looks like the Sanderson Sisters are back. In a post about the upcoming Hocus Pocus reunion for charity, Midler shared a picture of all three of the original stars back in their witch costumes, and it’s the best thing we’ve seen all spooky season.

“Your 3 fav witches – @sarahjessicaparker@kathynajimy & ME – are returning for 1 night only on 10/30 at 8p ET!” Midler both captioned both her Instagram post and wrote on Twitter. In the picture, it’s possible Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy—aka Winifred, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson—are performing “I Put a Spell On You,” like in the Hocus Pocus movie. No matter what though, SJP looks like she’s is having a hilarious time.

“In Search of the Sanderson Sisters” is the best thing to happen to #Halloween since Hocus Pocus + Reeses Pieces,” Midler continued in her post. “Get your tix now and support @NYRP#nyrphulaween”

You can buy your tickets here, on the New York Restoration Project website, for $10. The Hocus Pocus reunion is on October 30th, 2020, at 8 p.m. ET.

In the words of Winifred Sanderson herself, it looks like it’ll be another glorious evening!

Original post, September 25th, 2020: It’s almost October, which means it’s time to take part in all-things spooky and watch Hocus Pocus for the one-millionth-or-so time. Though we do this every year, this year will be extra special because the Halloween goddesses are bringing us a virtual cast reunion. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy—aka Winifred, Sarah, and Mary—will come together for In Search of the Sanderson Sisters: A Hocus Pocus Hulaween Takeover on October 30th.

Midler, who plays the sisters’ head honcho in the 1993 classic, typically hosts an annual Hulaween fundraising gala every year, Martha Stewart reports, to benefit the New York Restoration Project (NYRP) (an open-space conservancy she founded in 1995). This year, due to coronavirus (COVID-19), she’s had to take the festivities online, but the proceeds will still benefit the NYRP. According to its website, the non-profit organization has helped plant trees, renovate gardens, restore parks, and transform open space for communities throughout New York City’s five boroughs.

Midler posted the Hocus Pocus reunion news to her Instagram, calling it a spooktacular event.

You have to watch the whole video. Not only is she wearing Winifred’s teeth, but she cannot stop laughing at the whole ordeal.

Tickets for the one-hour long event are on sale now on the NYRP website for just $10. Serious Hocus Pocus fans (who also want to help maintain public spaces in NYC) can invest in benefits packages, which range in price from $650 to $70,000 and include things like access to exclusive pre-show entertainment, the option to have your name featured in the Hulaween parody during the broadcast, and an invite to an in-person event in 2021.

Fans can also purchase limited-edition merchandise and virtual classes from the Sanderson Sisters Charm School in the weeks leading up to the event. This is all very exciting, so form your calming circle as you wait for the event.
