The “Hobby Lobby Challenge” is the latest weird internet photo trend, but we think you’ll like this one
Social media challenges have ranged from the weird, to the fun, to the *highly* questionable (the Tide Pod Challenge, anyone?). But here’s one you’re probably going to love. The “Hobby Lobby Challenge,” where people essentially stage artistic photo shoots in the middle of craft stores, is the latest trend to take over social media, and the results are pretty awesome.
The ~unique~ photo challenge started back in late January when 22-year-old Kelsey Maggart tweeted a series of photos of her friend in a Hobby Lobby store. Maggart first tried the Ugly Location Challenge with a friend at the end of November, which “blew up on social media,” she told BuzzFeed.
A couple months later, they tried shooting professional-looking photos in the floral section of different Hobby Lobby craft stores, and their concept quickly became a viral photo trend.
“Photography is kind of my life,” Maggart told BuzzFeed News. “For the most part people tell me how much they love my work and that they’re inspired by my use of locations that people wouldn’t normally use.”
The Hobby Lobby Challenge is simple enough.
All you have to do is head to your local Hobby Lobby (or any other craft store), find the fake flower section, and set up a shoot. Nobody will know you took your stunning headshots in the middle of a craft store.

The real challenge is figuring out how to make your photos seem like you’re actually in the middle of an enchanted garden and not in the middle of an aisle at Hobby Lobby. If you’ve ever been inside one of the stores, you know the lighting isn’t that great and figuring out how to hide the price tags and work around metal bars is also key.
We did that Hobby Lobby Challenge. aka took these pics in Hobby Lobby. but it was basically an enchanted garden ya know lol. fun timez. pic.twitter.com/LhJ2n5Fvnc

As far as social media challenges go, this is definitely a fun one. While it does have its weird factor — just imagine shopping at Hobby Lobby and finding a full-on photo shoot going on in the middle of the store — the results are pretty great.
