Could this be a hint that Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake have recorded a song together?
We know it could be too good to be true, but there are rumors that Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake may have collaborated recently, and OH EM GEEEEEE.
It’s been announced that, after four years, Spears is set to end her “Piece of Me” Las Vegas residency at the Axis Theater in Planet Hollywood. The singer, who is heading out on her first international tour in nearly six years this summer, will perform shows in Vegas until December 31, after which she’ll hang up her crown as Queen of the Strip.
Speaking about the move, Britney said in a statement that she didn’t quite know what the future holds for her. “As I prepare to say goodbye to ‘Piece of Me,’ I had no idea how magical this experience would be. Having my fans from around the world come see my show has been amazing. I love Las Vegas and will miss performing this show,” she said.
Echoing this, BritBrit’s manager, Larry Rudolph, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that, while another residency wasn’t out of the question, there were potentially other things up the singer’s sleeves.
“She might tour, she might work on a new album,” he said. “It’s too early to talk specifics about anything.”
Well, some sleuthing by the Britney fans over at Breathe Heavy may have uncovered that one of Britney Spears’ next moves could include a collaboration with Justin Timberlake and legendary producer Timberland.
In fact, it wasn’t that long ago that both Britney and Justin said they’d be up for a collaboration together.
While promoting her ninth album, Glory, Brit said during a fan Q&A that she’d love to team up with JT in the future. Meanwhile, Justin, having just had a baby, said that while he’d missed Britney’s comments, he, too, would totally be open for a reunion of two of pop’s biggest power players.
"I’m accessible, give us the call," he said during an interview with E! News.
Now some hawk-eyed fans have spotted something going down on Instagram that could hint that this collab *may* become a reality.
As Breathe Heavy reports, it seems that producer Timberland, a longtime collaborator of Justin Timberlake and someone whom JT is currently in the studio with working on new music, went on a liking spree on Instagram. What was he liking? #Throwback pictures of Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears.
Timberland also shared the following picture from the studio of himself, Justin, and Pharrell Williams.
If that wasn’t enough, Timberlake seemed to resurface an old tweet of his from back in 2013. The message in question was a rebuttal to rumors that he’d been bad mouthing Britney.

Justin quickly un-retweeted his message, but not before fans on social media snapshotted the evidence.

Okay, we’re, like, legitimately freaking out right now. While it doesn’t necessarily mean that Britney and Justin have *finally* recorded a song together, it all seems like FAR too much of a coincidence to be random, right?
What’s more, next year marks a career milestone for Britney. Her iconic debut single “…Baby One More Time” celebrates its 20th anniversary. And what better way to celebrate a career milestone than by reuniting with old friends and making some FIRE music together.
We guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
