Hilary Duff teased that there’s going to be a little mano a mano with Ethan Craft in the Lizzie McGuire reboot

Apparently middle school crushes never die. At least, not for fictional characters from our favorite Disney shows. Production of the Lizzie McGuire reboot is in full swing in NYC, and now we have another reason (the list is endless, honestly) to count down the days until the premiere. Star Hilary Duff just hinted that her character Lizzie’s childhood crush, Ethan Craft, will make a return in the reboot. Cue our inner animated selves freaking out.

Most Lizzie McGuire fans not only fully shipped Lizzie and Ethan during their middle school days, but also had a massive crush on the character themselves. I mean, could his hair be more perfectly coiffed?

As time went on—aka, as the characters jetted off on an Italian adventure, and a pop star named Paolo came into play—Ethan became old news. You can have him, Kate Sanders. But now that Lizzie is all grown up, maybe Ethan has matured, too? In a recent interview with E! News, Duff discussed the return of the original cast, and of course, resident hottie Ethan was brought up.

“He is hot. He's very hot, Duff said. “I'm pretty sure there's going to be, there's going to be a thing.

A thing, you say? Like, a casual run-in at the local coffee shop? A stolen kiss at the foot of Lizzie’s Brooklyn brownstone? Or like a thing-thing? We need answers.

Duff has been dropping hints all over the place since we learned of the reboot, but she always leaves us begging for more details. We do know that Lizzie begins the series engaged to a SoHo restaurant owner (whose identity hasn’t yet been revealed), but do we smell trouble in paradise? If Ethan is showing up for so-called “thing,” Lizzie’s engagement can’t be all sunshine and roses.

Which brings us to the real character revival on our mind: Gordo. That sweet kiss in Rome had to lead somewhere, right? Maybe former foes Gordo and Ethan track Lizzie down and fight for her love? Sigh. So many questions, so few answers.

Who knew Lizzie would have such a complicated love life at age 30? These theories are all speculation, of course, but it feels like Duff is dying to spill the juicy details. We can’t wait to watch it all go down when the reboot hits Disney+ soon.
