Hilary Duff gets real about being a single parent saying, “I’m divorced, and it sucks”
Being a parent is hard, but being a single parent is even harder. Hilary Duff gets real about the struggles of single parenting and reveals it “sucks.”
In the April issue of Redbook, Duff opened up about her life, being a single mom and being divorced. Duff’s openness is very mature and refreshing.
Sometimes the truth hurts, but we commend the Younger star for being so vulnerable and real.
“Some of my friends tell me, ‘God, it must be so nice, you get a break from your kid because you share him,’” Duff told Redbook. “I’m divorced, and it sucks. Well, it did suck for a while; now it’s just normal.”
The 29-year-old actress has four-year-old son Luca with her ex-husband Mike Comrie. The two separated in 2014 when Luca was two years old.
Although they’ve been apart for a while now, it’s not always easy trying to co-parent.
“But it’s true, I do get a break,” she added. “I had Luca by myself for a few weeks, no help, when Mike was on the road, and when he got home I was like, ‘He’s yours! Bye!’”
Our favorite former Disney actress also opened up about having to balance her work life and home life. She explained that it’s hard to try and impress everyone, and not feel guilty about your choices.
“I always feel torn or guilty about something,” Duff admitted. “I’m not working right now, and at first I stressed about that, like, ‘Oh, I shouldn’t stay still this long.’ And that’s ridiculous. I have a child; it’s totally fine to not be slammed all the time.”
“It feels really good to not be on someone else’s schedule — besides Luca’s,” she said. “I’m basically his chauffeur!”
Duff might love being a mom, but that doesn’t mean she’s ready for baby number two…at least not right now.
“I’ve gotten over the fact that I’m not going to have a baby that’s close in age with Luca,” the Texas native told the publication. “It sucked when everyone would be like, ‘When are you having another?’ I’d be like, ‘Do you know what’s happening right now? I’m not having another.’”
No matter how hard parenting is, Duff definitely puts her son first, and for that, she’s a super mom.
