This insane hi-resolution footage of the moon’s surface will please your inner space geek

Summon your inner space geek and join us in watching this amazing hi-resolution footage of the moon’s surface over and over again. Honestly, it’s the next best thing to staring into the dreamy face of your #MCM or #WCW, minus those pesky butterflies.

Released by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the footage was captured during the Selene mission by the Kaguya spacecraft between 2007 and 2009. The Daily Mail reports that 600+ images and motion pictures were snapped by the spacecraft’s 2.2 megapixel HDTV sensors, many of which were recently released to the public for the first time.

Needless to say, the #ViewsFromtheMoon are nothing short of mind-blowing.

SIGHS. It’s so beautiful. Honestly, it might be worth risking a mild case of space brain to experience these craters up close and in person. But on second thought, cosmic radiation doesn’t sound enjoyable at all, so we’ll settle for scrolling through this gorgeous reel of photos snapped by Selene and moon bathing from the comfort of our backyards.
