HG’s summer TV watchlist: 10 shows you won’t want to miss

Summer is so close, we can almost taste it. Soon, it will officially be the season of cookouts, beach trips, and afternoons spent lounging by the pool. But summer also means sweating through the hottest days of the year. Thankfully, if you’d rather stay inside with the A/C on blast, you’re in luck. Because the summer also means a ton of great books, movies, and, of course, TV shows.

Whether you’re counting down the days until the return of Stranger Things or looking for something new and exciting to help you beat the heat, we’ve got you covered with our HG summer watchlist.

1 American Princess 

This new Lifetime comedy stars Georgia Flood as Amanda, a wealthy New Yorker who finds herself stuck at a Renaissance Faire after dumping her cheating fiancé right before their wedding. The show premiered on June 2nd, and you can catch new episodes on Lifetime on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET.

2 The Handmaid’s Tale

If you missed the first two seasons of this Emmy-winning Hulu series, what better time to catch up than summer? Season 3 of the dystopian drama will premiere on June 5th, bringing the Resistance to Gilead at last.

3 Big Little Lies

With an all-star cast including Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, and now Meryl Streep (!), Big Little Lies is a definite must-watch. We’ve been eagerly awaiting Season 2 of this Emmy winner since Season 1 ended, and the Monterey Five will finally return on June 9th on HBO.

4 Pose

FX’s drama about the underground ball scene in New York City features the largest LGBTQ cast in a scripted TV show. Season 2, which is set in 1990, premieres on June 11th at 10 p.m.

5 Euphoria

Zendaya stars in this new HBO drama about addiction, love, and growing up, which was adapted from an Israeli TV show of the same name. Catch the premiere on June 16th.

6 Stranger Things

Stranger Things Season 3 is set in the summer, which means we can expect the Hawkins kids to navigate summer camp, part-time jobs, and, of course, battles against the supernatural. Watch the whole season on Netflix starting July 4th.

7 Veronica Mars 

Kristen Bell is back as our favorite snarky detective in Hulu’s reboot of this mid-aughts classic. We can’t wait to return to Neptun, California on the July 26th premiere date.

8 Orange Is the New Black 

The seventh and final season of Jenji Kohan’s drama will drop on July 26th.

9 Four Weddings and a Funeral 

Mindy Kaling wrote this adaptation of the 1994 Hugh Grant rom-com, so we already know it’s going to be hilarious. Game of Thrones fans will recognize Nathalie Emmanuel (aka Missandei) as one of the 10-part miniseries’ stars. Catch Four Weddings and a Funeral on July 31st.

10 GLOW

According to Entertainment WeeklySeason 3 of the Netflix series will see the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling take on the Las Vegas Strip. Stream the new season starting on August 9th.
