Everything we know about the ‘Heroes’ reboot

Over the next few weeks, our TVs are going to be flooded with brand new shows, and a few reboots in the mix, too. But there’s only one show this season that is actually getting reborn. After going off the air five years ago, Heroes is now coming back, and already it looks better than ever. With a cast made up of some brand new faces, and some familiar ones. Even if you didn’t watch the OG series now’s the perfect time to get hooked. Here’s what we already know about Heroes Reborn, and everything that’s getting us excited to save the world again.

It’s a mini-series, not a brand new multi-season series

Heroes Reborn was envisioned with a beginning, middle, and end, and all of that spans 13 episodes. So, we’re only getting 13 brand new episodes of Heroes before it’s over again. However, creator Tim Kring has hinted that he’d continue with more of these shortened installments if Reborn works out well. Or, as Kring told the crowd after the Heroes Reborn screening at the Toronto International Film Festival, “The world always needs saving.”

The events pick up after the events of Heroes last series finale

In the Heroes world — just like in our world — it’s five years later than when we last saw a new Heroes. Now in the Heroes universe, everyone knows about these heroes, aka the humans with superpowers, aka evolved humans or “evos.” Many aren’t happy about it. The events of Heroes Reborn actually pick up a year after a terrorist attack has destroyed a town in Texas, and the evos are blamed for it. Many of them are now in hiding for their own safety.

There are going to be lots of brand new powers

Flying? So last season. How about the ability to insert yourself into a video game? That’s the power that Miko (Kiki Sukezane) finds herself with.

But Zachary Levi doesn’t have any powers

That’s because he’s not an evo — at least what we’ve seen of him so far is not an evo. Instead, he’s actually hunting the evos, for what happened in Texas.

The returning cast members are awesome

Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka), Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg), Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy), The Haitian (Jimmy Jean-Louis), Mrs. Petrelli (Cristine Rose), and Micah Sanders (Noah Gray-Cabey) are all back. Quick refresher, here are their powers, in order: space-time manipulation; mind reading and control; increased strength and agility; can manipulate memories; precognitive dreaming; technopath, meaning he can talk to computers.

Noah Bennett (Jack Coleman) is also back. But he still doesn’t have any powers. Sad face.

And we miss the cast members who aren’t returning

Don’t hold your breath for any sort of surprise cameo, because Hayden Panettiere, Milo Ventimiglia, and Zachary Quinto have all stated that they will not return to the show (they’re all just very busy).

Everyone’s still trying to save the world

It’s not just going to be about saving the world to save the world. Heroes Reborn will find itself dealing with present day “saving the world” social issues, too.

“Heroes has always been a bit of a mirror to what’s happening in the world,” Kring told The Hollywood Reporter. “There are environmental issues that we’re going to hit on, ideas about technology, about corporate greed and all of that.”

Excited yet? Go ahead and mark your calendars. Heroes Reborn kicks off on September 24th with a two-hour premiere.
