A mama dog brilliantly saved her puppies from a fire. Happy sobs.
A raging forest fire in Valparaiso, Chile threatened the lives of a dog and her nine puppies. Chilean TV station Telemundo 47 reported on the incredibly heart-warming story that brought the community together to help rescue the adorable dog family. Get ready to shed some happy tears.
Here’s what happened — mama dog recognized that the flames from the fire were rapidly approaching, and she understood the immediate danger her and her puppies were in.
She knew she wasn’t able to move them away from the fire in time, so she made a quick and clever decision by digging a hole in the ground underneath a huge metal container. But not just a shallow hole that dogs typically dig to bury something trivial like a bone or their human’s favorite shoe — she dug an extremely deep hole to ensure their safety from the fire. There wasn’t enough room for her in the hole with her puppies, so she managed to find shelter nearby. Her puppies were her number one priority! That’s love, you guys.
All the dogs were rescued and are healthy. Since the rescue, many locals have been offering to adopt all of the dogs.
This mama dog and her pups aren’t the only ones who have been affected by the devastating fire. According to the BBC, over 250 acres have burned since the fire started last Friday, causing thousands of people to evacuate their homes. The fire started in an illegal landfill, and was pushed along by the wind.
As awful and terrifying as the fire situation in Chile is right now, we are relieved that this story’s ending was happy one.
