This is why Hermione only wore fake teeth in one scene of the “Sorcerer’s Stone”

Who knew — Harry Potter and Buffy the Vampire Slayer have something in common: both suffered from a terrible case of not being able to act with fake teeth in. Both also opted out of using fake teeth for certain characters after realizing how potentially silly they were. In the Harry Potter books, Hermione Granger is described as having a significant overbite, so at first, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone director Chris Columbus thought that Emma Watson should wear a set of fake teeth to give her the proper look.

In a recent podcast interview with EW, Chris Columbus pointed us to the scene to look for when seeking out these faux-chompers.

"The thing we shot on the first day of Sorcerer's Stone was the final train sequence where Harry looks at Hogwarts, and Emma, Dan, and Rupert are huddled up on the side of the train. If you look closely at that scene, Emma -- because Hermione, it was a big thing in the books about her teeth. She had sort of had an overbite, so she's wearing fake teeth in that scene."

Obviously we IMMEDIATELY went to look at the scene in question.

Yup, those are definitely fake. We never would’ve noticed, but now that we see it, we can’t stop.

Her mouth doesn’t quite close right, either — clearly these things weren’t super comfortable.

While we’re all for keeping close to the books since we loved them so very much, we totally understand not sticking with this change, even if spotting these scene where they tried to make her overbite happen is a little hilarious. Chris Columbus quickly came to the same conclusion.

"I realized that we're never going to be able to -- she's never going to be able to perform with these huge fake teeth in her mouth for the rest of the movie. So if you look closely you can see some fake teeth."

While we’re sure all around pro Emma Watson didn’t complain even at such a young age, we totally understand not wanting to cause additional difficulties or discomfort for her. Seriously, look at that face. And anyway, we loved movie Hermione, even without her overbite.
