Here’s how much Carrie Bradshaw’s famous “Sex and the City” tutu cost, and you’d be surprised
There are few skirts more iconic than the tutu worn by Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City‘s opening credits. You know the one we mean: It’s white, two-layered, and gets covered in filth when a bus drives by and sprays our heroine with dirty rain water. Ring a bell?
Well, it turns out the skirt we’ve been coveting for nearly two decades (!!) cost a mere $5 and was found in a showroom bin by the show’s beloved costume designer, Patricia Field. Imagine how much money we could have saved on tutus over the years if only we’d known to look in the discount bin!
Speaking to Women’s Wear Daily about her more than 50 years in the fashion biz, Field revealed that Sarah Jessica Parker, who played Carrie Bradshaw, was more than happy to wear the flippy skirt, but the show’s producers took some convincing. Luckily, they eventually trusted her vision — because that skirt has since been a style inspiration to millions of budding fashionistas.
