Here’s what Miss Colombia had to say about that whole Miss Universe thing
By this point, you’ve probably heard about the seriously awkward moment that happened during the Miss Universe pageant, when host Steve Harvey accidentally announced the WRONG winner, then had to back-pedal. Hey, we all make mistakes, but it was undoubtedly really difficult for Miss Colombia (Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo), who was given the crown only to have it taken back off her head and handed to the actual winner — Miss Philippines.
Miss Colombia was pretty silent for a few days, but now, she’s taken to Instagram to express some seriously amazing words that exemplify grace in the face of hardship.
First, she thanked those who have supported her during the time before and after the confusing announcement. “After the storm comes the calm,” she wrote. “I want to thank each and everyone of you who have sent messages of support and strength. Every one of you has become an incredible human being in my book and I am the most fortunate and thankful for having the support not only from one country but from the whole entire world.”
She expressed how this was her “destiny.” “I was able to bring happiness to my country after becoming Miss Universe for only a couple of minutes,” she explained in the caption. “Today because of that COLOMBIA and the LATIN COMMUNITY are being talked about in every corner of the world.”
Ariadna also took the time to congratulate the Philippines for their accomplishment. “The happiness that you must be feeling must be incredible,” she wrote.
Then, she ended her post with a sentence that we could all use when we’re going through something difficult. “Life continues and in the future we will find out why things happen the way they happen,” she wrote.
Nothing says grace and poise like Miss Colombia’s response. Thanks, Ariadna, for being the perfect example of how to handle an uncomfortable situation. Crown or not, we think you’re rad.
