Here’s how “Game of Thrones” has affected the sex lives of the British

Game of Thrones is affecting the sex lives of people in Britain, because they just can’t stop watching Netflix in bed. When faced with the major dilemma — sex or Game of Thrones — people are choosing the one that involves dragons and white walkers.

David Spiegelhalter, Professor of Public Understanding of Risk at the University of Cambridge, is very worried about declining sex rates over the last 30 years and blames DVD boxsets and subscription services like Netflix.

“People are having less sex,” Spiegelhalter said. Sexually active couples between 16 and 64 were asked and the median was five times in the last month in 1990, then four times in 2000 and three times in 2010. “At this rate by 2030 couples are not going to be having any sex at all. Which is a very worrying trend.”

He thinks it’s because of people’s desire to binge-watch Netflix shows and constantly check their phones. Based on how often that happens, he’s probably not totally wrong.

“People think ‘I’m going to watch the entire second season of Game of Thrones,’” he said. “It’s generally thought now that this mass of connectivity that we now have, the constant checking of our phones, the amount of entertainment going on all at once, compared with just a few years ago when the TV used to close down at half past ten and there was nothing else to do, has affected the frequency of our sex.”

So Netflixers beware: The more you binge-watch, the less sex you’ll have. Unless you can multi-task…
