Here’s the family who actually lives in “The Bachelor” mansion

We don’t know about you, but our dream house is The Bachelor mansion. It’s romantic, private, and has this Tuscan feel about it. We’re swooning just thinking about living there. But did you know that someone actually DOES live there?

Marshall Haraden designed and built his dream home, unbeknownst to him that it was destined to become the love pad of multitudes of singles looking for romance. Yup, The Bachelor mansion is actually a family home.

Haraden built the California mansion in 2004 as a permanent residence for his family of six. When producers asked Haraden if they could use the mansion as the backdrop for the steamy reality TV show, Haraden gave them the green light.

Here’s how it all works, logistically. The Haraden family moves out of the mansion when The Bachelor crew moves in. The father of four and owner of his own contracting company, The Marshall Group, revealed some behind-the-scenes details to The Today Show about living in such a famed locale.

“When [the crew] comes, we move out for 42 days,” Haraden said. “Everything we own leaves the property and goes into storage.” During those 42 days the home gets a makeover. Walls a repainted depending on which show is shooting – The Bachelor or The Bachelorette.

Haraden went on to say, "I stay away from the house unless something breaks. I don't want to have special knowledge about anything that goes on so there's no way I can say something I'm not supposed to know.

By the time the hometown dates come around, the camera crew returns everything back to normal before vacating the premise and letting the Haradens move back in.

"People think that when the show's on TV, it's happening at the house," Haraden told Today. "Sometimes when we come home for dinner at 9 or 10 at night, there's people outside the gate climbing over the fence or on top of their cars trying to take pictures."

Haraden admits that it’s always a bit jarring to see his home on television. The six-bedroom, nine-bathroom mega house has also been the backdrop for many commercials and has also appeared in the show, Quantico.

Even though it’s a little disappointing to realize that someone already permanently lives in the Bachelor mansion, meaning we can’t magically move in, it’s also cool to get an inside look into one of America’s favorite reality television shows. If walls could talk, amiright?
