Helllllllooooo girl-powered ‘Little Prince,’ you are one precious little trailer
While The Little Prince may look like a Pixar film, it is not. What it is, is proof that big cinematic things are coming to the silver screen from a relatively small package. Independent European studio ON Entertainment, in tandem with director Mark Osborne (whom you might know from such films as Kung Fu Panda), have unveiled the second teaser trailer for the computer-animated film adaptation of the famous novel by French author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Judging by the plot we’ve gotten so far, it feels like this is going to be a very girl-centric story — and we’re on board with it.
The film revolves around a brilliant (shall we say genius-level) Little Girl (Mackenzie Foy) whose mother (Rachel McAdams) is equally driven to press her daughter into success. Soon after moving into a new house, the Girl meets a somewhat eccentric next-door neighbor called The Aviator (Jeff Bridges), who introduces her into a magical new world — a world that he himself journeyed to long ago, where he met the Little Prince (Riley Osborne). Oh, and the poster is RIGHT up our alley:
So far, the U.S. premiere date hasn’t been announced, though the film will be shown at the Cannes Film Festival in France, and will get a theatrical release in France on July 29th. While the movie contains an entirely new side plot not included in the original book, we’re excited to see a movie with so much “I read that book in French class” name recognition adopt a relatable young female protagonist. Now, THAT’s what we like to see.
