Helen Mirren is going to be in “The Nutcracker” because she can do anything
The Nutcracker is going to be made into a live-action film by Disney, and none other than Helen Mirren is in talks to play Mother Ginger.
The story was originally written by E.T.A. Hoffman and called The Nutcracker And The Mouse King. Then, it was turned into a ballet by Tchaikovsky, of course.
The latest adaptation is known as The Nutcracker And The Four Realms and was written by Ashleigh Powell. Lasse Hallström will direct. Mirren would join Keira Knightley, Morgan Freeman, and ballerina Misty Copeland, who are also attached to star, as well as Mackenzie Foy, who will play Clara.
In the ballet as we know it (which will undoubtedly be tweaked for the big screen), Mother Ginger is a living gingerbread house. Yep, we’re just as curious as you are to see how that will translate to the big screen. But, we are talking about Helen Mirren, and she can do anything.
She may have played The Queen of England, but she’s also the Queen of Acting to us.
No matter what she does, she’s a pro.
She’s been in comedic TV roles…
And you may remember when she was on SNL…
She’s also been in poignant roles, like Woman in Gold.
Overall, she seems fun, versatile, and up for anything.
We hope it works out because we can’t wait to see her play Mother Ginger.
