Helen Mirren just hilariously summed up how we’re all feeling about 2016
Given how tumultuous this year has been it was only a matter of time until someone succinctly summed it all up for us, and luckily Helen Mirren has just given her take on 2016 and it’s hilariously relatable.
Over the course of the past 12 months, Helene Mirren has truly cemented what we all knew about her: that she’s without a doubt an actual queen! The 71-year-old actor recently joined Instagram and her account is so AMAZING that you just need to go and follow her right now. What’s more the British star landed another badass film role in the upcoming eighth instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise because she slays.
We also got a glimpse into how much of a powerful woman Helen Mirren actually is when old footage of an interview from of the star emerged where she totally and amazingly shut down some sexist interview questions. As we said…ACTUAL QUEEN. Likewise, the star opened up about her decision to not have children and we totally loved her honesty and her comments about how a family can come in all shapes and forms.
Well, now Helen Mirren has now perfectly summed up how we’re all feeling about 2016 and it’s relatable AF.
Dropping by the British chat show The Graham Norton Show, Mirren, who is promoting her new movie Collateral Beauty which also stars Will Smith, was asked whether she could do an alternative to speech that the Queen usually gives on Christmas Day in the U.K.
Noting that Helen Mirren is the closest that they have to royalty on the show, host Graham Norton asks whether Mirren would do the honor of giving a very alternative speech to the British public.
"Hello," she says. "At this time of celebration and togetherness, we have the chance to reflect on the year gone by. And I think we can all agree that 2016 has been a big pile of shit."
"So my advice to you is drink responsibly and be merry. Have a very happy Christmas."
She then proceeds to drop the mic and it’s AMAZING.

Given that Mirren is an incredible actor, we love but aren’t surprised by the fact that she’s able to deliver such a hilarious line with such regality. However, as we keep saying, she is a total queen.
