These wild pictures of Heidi Klum getting “social-distancing highlights” in her backyard are drawing backlash
It’s week three billion of quarantine, and everyone’s hair is screaming for professional attention. Heidi Klum, however, is not everyone! Yesterday, May 20th, the model posted an Instagram photo of herself getting “social distancing highlights” from her stylist, Lorenzo Martin, in her backyard. Considering that stay-at-home orders are still in place in California, where Klum lives, the photo is garnering a good amount of criticism on social media.
In the photo, Martin dons gloves, a mask, and a makeshift “shield” made of an umbrella with armhole cut-outs. Klum rocks a leopard-print mask, black lingerie, fishnets, and pumps. (Why not?)
“Dahhling we found a way! Social distancing highlights. Love you @hairbylorenzomartin,” Klum wrote in the caption.
The comments section is a true mixed bag of reactions. While lots of fans praised the model’s playfulness, “genius,” and how good she looks in lingerie, others voiced their concerns about Klum and Martin defying social-distancing measures (and stay-at-home orders, assuming Martin doesn’t live with Klum).
“I thought social distancing measures meant six feet away?” one commenter wrote.
Another criticized her inability to “wait” until salons are safely reopened in California, which won’t happen until the state reaches the third wave of their four-phase reopening plan. As of May 8th, the state moved onto Phase 2 and reopened low-risk businesses and services like retail stores, outdoor museums, and car washes. Even so, serious modifications are in place—i.e. retailers are only open for curbside pickup and delivery, and the state still urges people to maintain a six-foot distance from one another.
But that didn’t stop Klum from documenting her professional at-home hair job on Instagram Stories, too.
People getting creative in quarantine? Love to see it. But we’d be lying if we said we didn’t share some of the cringe Klum’s critics are feeling, too.
