HBO’s president just gave us an update on “Game of Thrones” and the possible prequel series

It isn’t an easy time to be a Game of Thrones fan. Season 6 of the hugely popular series ended in the beginning of summer 2016. And since then, all fans have only been left with some awesome hints of what’s to come next.

While we do know that we have to wait until at least until the summer of 2017 for the seventh season, a lot was left up in the air about the eighth – and supposedly final – season of the series. Luckily for us, HBO’s programming president, Casey Bloys, recently broke the news about some exciting tidbits for us to look forward to.

Apparently season 8 might not be the last we see from the Game of Thrones universe!

Bloys spoke to Entertainment Weekly and let them know two main things.

First, they’re still playing with the arc of the eighth season.

So there’s a possibility that there might be more episodes than they were originally anticipating, which is really good news for fans!

Also, he hinted at the possibility that of there being more Game of Thrones beyond the supposed last season!

Bloys explained, "It's such a huge property we would be foolish not to explore it, but it's a pretty high bar. We'll take some shots at it. I'm not going to do it just to do it. It has to feel very special. I would rather have no sequel and leave it as-is then have something we rushed out."

He then addressed the rumors of a possible prequel to the series.

"A prequel feels like it has less pressure on it. [George RR Martin] gives you areas in which to say to a writer, 'if you were going to do this, then go flesh it out,' and we'll see what comes back. But don't feel any pressure that we have to have something," Bloys said.

While that is definitely not a concrete promise of more Game of Thrones, it is really cool to know that HBO and the series writers are looking into it! We also seriously appreciate Bloys’ dedication to the quality of the series, and to preserving its badass legacy.
