HBO teased new footage from Game of Thrones Season 8, and we have questions

The first footage from the final season of Game of Thrones has arrived. HBO just released a sizzle reel teasing its 2019 programming, and we got our first (albeit tiny) glimpse of the final six episodes of the series.

While the reel is largely peppered with footage from the penultimate season of the hit fantasy show, the teaser includes a single new shot from the upcoming season, and eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice.  The moment, which comes near the end of the reel, features a hug between Jon Snow and a less-than-happy Sansa Stark. However, we don’t know anything else about the scene or moment (though Sansa looks extremely determined about something).

The nearly two-minute reel also gave us our first look at Meryl Streep in Big Little Lies Season 2, in which she’ll play the late Perry Wright’s bereaved mother arriving in Monterey following her son’s mysterious death. In the clip, Streep’s character seemingly has a run-in with Celeste Wright (Nicole Kidman) and Madeline Mackenzie (Reese Witherspoon). The trailer also teases the return of Veep which will air its final season next year, after going on hiatus in 2018 while star Julia Louis-Dreyfus underwent treatment for breast cancer.

The reel also highlighted programming that will air later this year, including My Beautiful Friend, a new series based on the Elena Ferrante novel, the Jennifer Garner-led show Camping, a new Flight of the Conchords special, the Pod Save America specials, Jane Fonda in Five Acts, and the return of Room 104.

Yes, this is shaping up to be a very good year for television.
