This underrated HBO show may be brought back from the dead
Deadwood fans have been taunted, since their show was abruptly canceled back in 2006, with a satisfying conclusion to the series. Well people, looks like we might be soon heading back to 19th century South Dakota.
What’s more? This Deadwood reboot might even come in the form of a movie.
All of this excitement started when the show’s star Garret Dillahunt (who plays Jack McCall and Francis Wolcott on the show) teased a potential return on Twitter.
HBO then confirmed they’re in veeeeeeeery early talks about a revival, but they’re not giving much away. “In reference to Garret Dillahunt’s tweet regarding the rumored Deadwood movie, there have only been very preliminary conversations,” a rep said, according to the AV Club.
What are these “preliminary conversations” about? Are they conversations about when Timothy Olyphant would have time to shoot a movie? Or figuring out when Molly Parker isn’t filming House of Cards? Or discussions about getting Anna Gunn to revisit her role as Martha Bullock? Ian McShane was just cast in Game of Thrones season 6, maybe they’ve got to work around his Westeros schedule before bringing him to historical South Dakota. They certainly can’t be conversations about whether or not fans want a reboot because the answer to that is most definitely yes.
Let’s be real for a second: When Deadwood was canceled it was an abrupt blow. A television break up of the worst kind. We are MORE than ready to see what happened to these characters who we held near and dear for three suspense-filled seasons. Give the characters (and the fans!) the ending they deserve. Come on HBO, you can do it.
