We love literally everyone in this new HBO animated series about talking animals

Talking animals! How would we live without them? We’ll hopefully never find out, but it looks like the anthropomorphized animal kingdom is about to get a little earthier with the latest HBO series causing a buzz.

Animals, created by Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano and produced by the profligate Duplass brothers, first hit the news back in May of 2015, when HBO execs caught a screening of the first two episodes and snatched the series at Sundance for a two-season order. It’s anticipated to be a 10-episode season, but details are still unclear ahead of its premiere on February 5 at 11:30 PM.

What we do know is that the show, which is set in New York City, features a voice cast that reads like a particularly exclusive Indy Hollywood party. In addition to the creators and Mark Duplass doing voice work, the cast list include Rob Corddry, Adam Scott, Rappers A$AP Ferg and A$AP Rocky, Jessica Chastain, Lauren Lapkis, Kumail Nanjiani, Kurt Vile, and about 25 more people we love. We know that the nature of voice-over work means that none of them were likely in the same room at the same time, but we can pretend that they all just live together and made this all at once, right?

According to Deadline,  the show steers away from the cute companions we’re used to with talking animals, and instead focuses on the downtrodden cynics left to scratch out a meager life in New York City, about as far from the glorious wilderness as one can get. “Whether it’s lovelorn rats, gender-questioning pigeons or aging bedbugs in the midst of a midlife crisis, the awkward small talk, moral ambiguity and existential woes of non-human urbanites prove startlingly similar to our own,” the article explains.

Animals that make us ponder instead of just going “awwwww?” Could this be the next evolution of the Internet Age? We’re absolutely setting our DVRs for this one guys; it sounds like it will be a lot of fun. Check out the trailer for Animals below:
