Harvey Weinstein’s fashion designer wife Georgina Chapman announced that she is leaving him

On October 8th, after explosive stories appeared in The New York Times about Harvey Weinstein’s history of sexual harassment and abuse over many decades, the disgraced film mogul was fired from his job at The Weinstein Company.

Now, his wife Georgina Chapman is leaving him.

When the allegations first came to light, Weinstein told Page Six that his wife “stands 100 percent behind me” — but as of last night, they’ve decided to part ways.

“My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions. I have chosen to leave my husband. Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time, Chapman told People in a statement.

Weinstein and Chapman were married in 2007, and they have two children together. Chapman is perhaps best known as co-founder of the fashion label Marchesa, a red carpet and celebrity favorite.

“I support her decision, I am in counseling and perhaps, when I am better, we can rebuild,” Weinstein added in his own statement. “Over the last week, there has been a lot of pain for my family that I take responsibility for. I sat down with my wife Georgina, who I love more than anything, and we discussed what was best for our family. We discussed the possibility of a separation and I encouraged her to do what was in her heart. I understand, I love her and I love our children and hopefully, when I am better, I will be in their lives again.”

Numerous women have come forward, on the record, to speak of the inexcusable abuse they experienced with Weinstein, alongside allies like Jennifer Lawrence and Meryl Streep, who condemned his behavior while expressing that they never experienced any of it personally.

Another expose appeared in The New Yorker on October 10th, the result of a 10-month investigation by reporter Ronan Farrow. We stand by the women who faced Weinstein’s abuses over the years, and hope that the continuing revelations work to change the industry for the better.
