Harry Styles is officially going solo, just like Zayn Malik
Ok, 1D fans, we’ve got good news and bad news about one of your faves, Harry Styles:
The good news is that Harry Styles has officially announced a solo career, and will be offering new music in the (somewhat) near future. The bad news is that the band’s breakup might just be a little more definite.
According to Billboard, “Harry Styles has signed a recording contract with Columbia Records, the same label behind his group One Direction,” but details about what and when are scarce.
Rumors have been swirling for months about a Harry-solo (not the same thing as a Han Solo, btw), and when he started filming the new Christopher Nolan movie, Dunkirk, it seemed a split from the band was inevitable.
In addition to his burgeoning acting career, he’s already getting some song-writing under his belt, registering four new songs with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). This suggests he’s been planning on a solo career for a while now. Sorry, 1D-ers.
Harry’s departure comes on the heels of bandmate Zayn Malik venturing into solo-status, and it’s unclear what this means for the future of One Direction, as a whole.
What is clear, however, is that the boys are taking on a lot of new experiences, that will surely keep them in the public eye, and give us fans plenty to talk about. But change is a constant, and even the best boy bands eventually break up (except Menudo.) If all the boys go solo, it just means we’ll have 5X the songs! That can’t be too bad a thing, right? Besides, there’s always reunion tours!
