Harry Shearer will be back on ‘The Simpsons.’ Excellent!

A while back, we were bummed to hear the news that long-time voice actor Harry Shearer was leaving The Simpsons. There was talk about him wanting to go on to do other work, along with a failure to reach a new contract agreement. We were assured that The Simpsons would continue on without Shearer, but considering he lends his voice to the likes of Ned Flanders, Principal Skinner, Otto, Kent Brockman, Reverend Lovejoy, and Mr. Burns, it was going to be weird to carry on without him.

Well, GOOD NEWS has just emerged from Springfield. Even though we were finally starting to come to terms with Shearer’s departure, turns out he’ll be back. We can stop crying into our donuts and Duff beer now. Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Shearer has just signed a brand new contract, that will have him returning to ALL his roles on The Simpsons.

Not only that, the contract is also for four seasons. The Simpsons is going into its 27th Season right now, and has already been renewed for Season 28, too. This new contract will carry over into Season 29 and Season 30, should it be renewed again. The contract that Shearer signed was the same one that the other main voice actors — Dan Castellaneta, Yeardley Smith, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, and Hank Azaria — signed as well, meaning that no one is going to be leaving Springfield for quite some time. So life is good.

The Simpsons returns on September 27th, and we’ll be hanging out at Moe’s until then.
