This teen’s ‘Harry Potter’ yearbook quote is going viral and we get why
There are some really good Harry Potter quotes out there, especially if you want to leave some inspiring words under your photo in your yearbook. For instance, my HP yearbook quote was filled with some wise words from Dumbledore in Goblet of Fire:
But then, there’s the option give the Harry Potter theme your own unique twist, which is exactly what 17-year-old Fatima Abdel-Gwad did when it came time to leave her mark on her high school’s history:
This comes from Fatima’s Tumblr, where it already has over a hundred notes and counting — and for good reason! Her witty quote does two very important things: One, it makes you laugh, and two, it uses this laughter to make a point about cultural differences.
What cultural differences? Fatima is Egyptian and wears a Hijab, a garment worn usually for religious reasons. But rather than just Googling it, people seem to be less subtle when it comes to their curiosity. While I’m sure their questions are well-intentioned, I can also see where it could get a bit annoying to have people gawking at something that’s just a part of your everyday life. So Fatima humorously settles it once and for all: Voldemort is living on the back of her head. Sorry, everybody.
This is one of many in what seems like a new trend for yearbook quotes: Saying something unique about yourself while also making an important statement. Good on teens for using their resources to change the world, even if it’s just one high school at a time!
