That one scene in the ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ film that is totally inaccurate

It’s the 10-year anniversary of the most gigantic error of the Potter film universe. Okay, not to be a downer, but so many Potter-fanatics are still bummed out about this one, we couldn’t let the day pass without mentioning it (h/t to MTV for the reminder).

You might remember this one, from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It’s the scene where Harry Potter’s name comes from the binding list of Tri-Wizard Tournament competitors and Dumbledore RUNS down the stairs, directly at Harry, and grabs him, asking (caps added for emphasis), “HARRY! DID YOU PUT YOUR NAME IN THE GOBLET OF FIRE?!?!?!?!?” And effectively gave everyone, including Harry, the scare of our lives.

What’s so wrong with that, you ask? Well, here’s how that scene goes in the book.

“Did you put your name into the Goblet of Fire, Harry?” [Dumbledore] asked calmly. These are the words J.K. Rowling actually wrote. And yet, there was nothing calm at all about how actor Michael Gambon delivered the line. Composure? Calm? Not so much!

As MTV point out, Gambon played Dumbledore much differently (like, more shouty) than Richard Harris, who played the character in the first two movies, until his death. Why? Apparently he had a policy against reading the source material.

Poor guy, hope he’s caught up on the greatest book series of our time now that the movies are a wrap!
