This “Harry Potter” actor will be in Season 7 of “Game of Thrones”
You might remember him from Harry Potter, where he played the loveable-hateable Professor Slughorn, or from Bridget Jones’ Diary, where he played Bridget’s dad (a role which he will reprise in the upcoming reboot!), or in about four-hundred other movies versatile character actor Jim Broadbent has been in, but we’re SO excited to see him in the upcoming season of Game of Thrones.
EW announced that the Oscar-winning actor had been cast, although it’s up to speculation who he’s going to be playing.
Game of Thrones fan website Watchers on the Wall have the inside scoop on the casting breakdowns for Season 7.
Keeping Broadbent’s age and general appearance in mind, the roles that seem most likely to have gone to him (according to Watchers on the Wall) are:
A general who’s middle aged and has a British RP accent.
A priest who is in his 60s. He is a “venerable priest with moral authority and gravitas.” Sounds a bit like The Sparrow, but who knows.
And also a merchant, also close to middle-aged. According to the Watchers on the Wall, he “appears at an inn during a busy evening,” and he might appear in Essos or a “place we’ve never seen before.”
We tend to favor the role of the priest — and although we don’t know the character names, Vanity Fair speculates he’ll be playing the role of Marwyn, a mage whose plot in the books intersects heavily with Sam and Dany’s.
Here’s the full list of new Game of Thrones characters (that we’re aware of so far).
Whatever role Jim Broadbent is playing, we’re excited for him to bring some magic and Slytherin cunning to Game of Thrones.
