We’ve got new images from the first-ever fully illustrated ‘Harry Potter’ books
Mark this down as the first big Harry Potter news of 2015: there are brand new Harry Potter illustrations to go in the (soon-to-be-released) brand new fully-illustrated Harry Potter books. Or to be a little more blunt: the first of SEVEN Harry Potter picture books is coming our way by the end of this year!
Instead of the usual cover art for the books, and simple sketch at the beginning of each chapter, these new Harry Potter editions will be chock full of all sorts of drawings, sketches, and illustrations, along with super detailed images from the wizarding world. The illustrator behind it all, Jim Kay, explained the project to The Guardian saying, “To design the characters, the clothing, the architecture and landscapes to possibly the most expansive fantasy world in children’s literature, well let’s just say I’m extremely excited about it.” I have a feeling we can trust him to do Harry Potter justice, because when asked to pick his favorite character he explained, it’s like “trying to choose the shiniest object in Aladdin’s Cave; you pick up one treasure, and another gem catches your eye.” Basically, how we all feel about Harry Potter on a daily basis.
The first illustrated book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (and/or Sorcerer’s Stone, if you’re stateside like me) will be published on October 6th 2015 — in both the U.K. and the U.S. And yes, the remaining books will then be published annually, so this might be a gift that keeps on giving. Also, in case you were wondering, all images are J.K. Rowling approved.
Four illustrations were just released from the upcoming book, so clear your schedule for the rest of the afternoon because you’re going to need the next four or five hours to study these intensely:
