Wands at the ready, a “Harry Potter” Go mobile game is happening

It’s time to step aside, Ash Ketchum, because we just found our new favorite game — and Harry Potter fans, start freaking out.

Much like mobile game Pokémon Go turned us all into Pokêmon trainers in 2016, and became one of the biggest cultural phenomenons of the year, Niantic Labs is about to bring us our new obsession. Niantic and Warner Bros. Interactive are teaming up to launch an interactive Harry Potter mobile game for release in 2018.

The partners plan to take things up a notch from Pokémon Go, the augmented-reality game which used users’ real-life surroundings to create a world for them to catch Pokémon and battle other users at “gyms.” Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will also use an augmented reality to bring the wizarding world to life. In the game, users can explore all over the world, learning spells, going on adventures and discovering the wizarding world in their own neighborhoods — like magical artifacts, characters, and even a few fantastic beasts.

Since the release of Pokémon Go last summer, rumblings of an augmented reality Harry Potter game have made their way around the internet a number of times, and we’re excited for the chance to *actually* explore J.K. Rowling’s magical world.

“With this game, we are allowing the passionate, worldwide fan base to experience J.K. Rowling’s deeply powerful and imaginative universe in a new, truly immersive way, David Haddad, President of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, said in a statement. “It is wonderful to have Niantic’s remarkable augmented reality expertise as we develop this incredibly rich wizarding world for players to explore in their everyday lives.

While it doesn’t seem like the witches and wizards within Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be given alma maters in Hogwarts or Ilvermorny, it does seem like we’ll still be able to meet up with some our favorite characters from the iconic franchise. And luckily, we probably won’t be  on the hunt for any horcuxes…yet.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be released sometime in 2018.
