When news broke that legendary actor John Hurt had passed, many took to Twitter to share their grief. (The man acted for decades, after all, and in over 200 films.) But what we might not remember is that John Hurt played Ollivander in the Harry Potter movies. As such, many of his Harry Potter brethren are also sharing their remembrances.

Here’s what J.K. Rowling had to say about John Hurt:

Hundreds of fans replied to J.K. Rowling’s tweet, many with their own remembrances of his films. While many had different favorite films, all agreed that he was a phenomenal actor.

Bonnie Wright, who played Ginny Weasley, had this to say:

Stephen Fry, who narrates the Harry Potter audio books, said:

Pottermore also showed a tribute from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando.

The Harry Potter cast aren’t the only ones to mourn John Hurt. Actors from all over the globe are sharing their stories. The actor impacted many, many lives with his wit, charm, and acting chops.

In life, Hurt received two Academy Award nominations, a Golden Globe, and four BAFTA awards, including a BAFTA Lifetime Achievement award. This writer will always remember his performance in The Elephant Man or as Kane in Alien.
