The Harry Potter books are getting a seriously high-tech update
You more than likely already own one or two copies of Harry Potter. Depending on the edition, you might even own three or four. Well, gather together your Galleons, because the “Enhanced Editions” of Harry Potter just hit iBooks in amazing digital form. You’re gonna want to buy ALL of these.
The thing about these new books are that they’re digital, so that means incredible digital easter eggs can be slipped in. Think of re-reading HP, but now with added .gifs for entertainment. Because that’s what it’s now like. The images have been grabbed from Pottermore (the OG Pottermore) and are enchanting while reading on the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Mac computers. Magical.
“Harry Potter fans are going to love how their favorite stories come to life,” Apple’s chief executive Tim Cook explained in a statement. “J.K. Rowling’s legendary series is perfect for enjoying on your iPad or iPhone and we’re thrilled to offer them exclusively on the iBooks Store.”
Elements are also interactive—like during Quidditch games—with affiliated sounds scattered throughout. Maybe the best part is that Rowling herself had added annotations along with the text, for extra insight into the action.
“I’m thrilled to see the Harry Potter books so beautifully realized on iBooks for the digital world; the artwork and animations in these enhanced editions bring the stories alive in a delightful new way,” Rowling explained in a statement.
We’re super excited to see them come alive, too. You can purchase them RIGHT NOW for $9.99, which isn’t too bad for a brand new reading journey. And besides, carrying around one iPad is so much lighter than carrying seven thick books.
