This “Harry Potter” actress just posed for “Playboy” — and here’s her reason for doing it
Warning: NSFW images ahead!
Okay, so we know her as the opinionated Slytherin witch Pansy Parkinson, but Harry Potter’s Scarlett Byrne posed nude for Playboy — and now it’s got everybody talking. In a lot of ways, Playboy is synonymous with controversy, and there are probably as many opinions about the brand as there are actual magazine issues. So it might be surprising to some to hear that Byrne chose to pose…BUT let’s not judge a book by its cover.
The black-and-white photos are tastefully shot, and Byrne had her own legitimate reasons for participating in the photoshoot.
"I'm very proud to be a part of the March/April issue of Playboy. I penned a short essay along with my pictorial titled, "The Feminist Mystique". A big thank you to @Playboy, the creative team, and @cooperbhefner for such a unique opportunity. #NakedIsNormal," she captioned the image.
It sounds like Byrne had a very positive experience with the spread, and that she’s using the images to highlight her own feminist viewpoint: Mainly, that nudity is 100% natural and the continued stigma and shame around the naked form is unbelievably outdated.
The “Naked is Normal” hashtag refers to Playboy’s efforts to rebrand and bring back nudity after the magazine banned it for a short time. Hugh Hefner’s son Cooper (who is engaged to Byrne) explained the reasoning on Playboy’s website. “Nudity was never the problem because nudity isn’t a problem. Today we’re taking our identity back and reclaiming who we are.” We can at least agree thatartistic depictions of nudity (or heck, a lot of public displays of it) shouldn’t be a problem, because being naked is normal. Truly.

While we’re certainly not jumping on board the Playboy wagon all the time, this particular perspective does make sense to us. And we’re very proud of Byrne for standing up for what she believes in — because that takes courage, no matter who you are.
