Harrison Ford loves the new ‘Star Wars’ movie, and that’s good enough for us
While you, and I, and everyone else we know still have to wait 17 days to see the brand new Star Wars movie, there are a select chosen few who have already watched the film. These pre-release screenings are reserved for the executives behind the movie (Hey, Disney!) and a few cast members: new cast member John Boyega has made it clear he hasn’t seen the movie; but returning favorite Harrison Ford has seen it and is giving it glowing reviews.
This is HUGE for a few reasons. First, and maybe most importantly, this means that Star Wars: The Force Awakens (probably) lives up to all our wildest dreams and expectations! The thing that would break my heart the most, just like Anakin did by the lake on Naboo, would be if Force Awakens turned out to be anything other than phenomenal. According to Ford, we need not worry.
“It was great,” America’s favorite scruffy looking nerf herder explained on Good Morning America. “It’s a wonderful movie, it’s got great production values. It’s a real big movie and I was delighted to see it.”
But delighted to be in it? That’s the other reason Ford’s review is so important. If you’re familiar with your off-screen Star Wars mythology, you know that Ford was never a huge fan of the original trilogy, and actually lobbied for Han Solo to be killed off in Return of the Jedi. Why? He found the character to be boring, called him “dumb as a stump,” and thought the movie shouldn’t have a happy ending.
Over the years, he’s been less than enthusiastic about the idea of revisiting the character, but with the promise of “a really good [Star Wars] script, [and] the opportunity to work with J.J. [Abrams]… it just seemed like a good idea.”
As for Han this time, Ford is also singing a different tune. This new movie gives the former scoundrel “a more complex story…a little bit more of an emotional context than perhaps there was before.” He was happy to jump into the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon once again, and now he’s ready for all of us to check it out, too! Only 17 days away!
