Happy World Egg Day!


World Egg Day was established in 1996 at the International Egg Commission conference in Vienna, and it was decided to celebrate the incredible, edible, egg each year on the second Friday in October. But why celebrate eggs? What an egg-xelent question. Besides the fact that eggs are one of nature’s purest sources of protein, eggs provide many key ingredients for a healthy life. Specifically, the proteins found in eggs are necessary in the development of the brain and muscles. Eggs also help prevent disease later on in life, especially in relation to eyesight. If you can’t eat eggs, use today as an excuse to find alternative sources of healthy proteins! The International Egg Commission has a list of “A Dozen Reasons to Celebrate World Egg Day” posted on their website, for those who may be curious. Bottom line: it’s a good day to pause and take a good look at your diet. Make sure you are getting the nutrients you need and consider how making eggs a bigger part of your diet could help you lead a more healthy life.

How to Celebrate

Have breakfast for dinner, including a good serving of scrambled eggs, or maybe even over medium (if you are more talented than I am in the kitchen and can manage to keep those darn yolks from breaking mid-flip). There are hundreds of delicious ways to use eggs beyond your typical breakfast omelet.

Can’t eat eggs? Then celebrate by watching some of the hilarious egg videos on YouTube. Seriously, just type in “Incredible Edible Egg” and boom. Hours of entertainment.
