Happy National Lemon Cupcake Day!
December 15th is National Lemon Cupcake Day!
Origin
It’s the middle of December. Six more days until the first day of winter, and 10 days til Christmas. There is snow on the ground (okay okay, a heavy frost…), I’m wearing my warmest wool sweater, my heating bill is out of control, and everywhere I go I am bombarded by Christmas treats. (Tough life, right?) In a time of pumpkin everything, gingerbread cookies, and triple chocolate spice hot cocoa, it is the simpler, classic flavors that get overlooked. And taking a break to remember our friend, the lemon cupcake, is a welcomed source of respite.
Lemon cupcakes make me think of spring. Maybe a birthday party, a spring social, or a bridal shower. They go perfectly with an English Breakfast tea, or even a spiced tea if you are feeling adventurous. Cupcakes, in general, are totally cute. Like, who can look at a cupcake and be mad? Nobody. Today, we celebrate the lemon cupcake, and reminder of simple treats, simple pleasures, and springtime.
How to Celebrate
Make a batch of lemon cupcakes and bring them to work. Or to school. Or wherever you go. The perfect lemon cupcake should be not too sweet and not too tart. It is this important balance that makes the lemon cupcake so appealing. Share your treats and reminisce about warmer times.
Quote of the Day
“I want to roll my eyes right now, but the doctor says that if I keep doing it, my ocular muscles might spasm and eject my eyeballs.”
– Liz Lemon, 30 Rock
