Happy National Candy Corn Day!
Origin
There are two types of people in the world. Those that eat the whole candy corn at once, and those that eat it color by color. Though I’m not here to say one way is better than the other (all methods of candy corn consumption have merit), I do find the color by color method to be the most rewarding as I savor the sweetness that this seasonal candy provides.
Candy corn is a classic fall-time confection that is found everywhere from office candy dishes to Halloween party treat tables. This autumnal favorite was first produced in the 1880s, which means these little yellow, orange, and white triangular treats are over 130 years old! The coloring of these candies is meant to resemble the coloring of corn kernels, and an estimated 20 million tons of candy corn are sold each year. What the what! That’s a lot!
How to Celebrate
Walk into literally any store (hardware store, grocery store, sporting goods store, you name it) this time of year, and you will see candy corn for sale. This is a wonderful opportunity to stock up for the season.
Make some candy corn treats! I found some really fun looking recipes online, including candy corn fudge, candy corn popcorn balls, candy corn truffles…
