Happy Frankenstein Friday!

Halloween is less than one week away, and today we have a great excuse to get warmed up for the spooky festivities that will ensue next week. Nearly 200 years after Frankenstein was published, Frankenstein Friday was created. In 1997, Ron MacCloskey of New Jersey wanted to dedicate the last Friday in October to the celebration of the “mother” and “father” of Frankenstein (author Mary Shelley and actor Boris Karloff). Each year on this day, MacCloskey celebrates Frankenstein Friday with various events, including film festivals, torch-lighting ceremonies, and the awarding of “the Franky”. “The Franky”? Frankly, I have no idea what it actually is… but I guess the award recipient is someone who has made a significant contribution to the promotion of Frankenstein (whatever that means…).

How to Celebrate

Watch Frankenstein! It’s the perfect occasion for a Halloween movie night. Have your pals over, pop some popcorn, whip up some fall treats, and enjoy this classic.

Another movie night option would be to watch Young Frankenstein. Because who doesn’t love Marty Feldman’s crazy eyes. ‘Nuff said.
