The ‘Hamilton’ Cast Will Reunite for a Behind-the-Scenes Special Launching Friday
Fans of Hamilton are being let into the “room where it happened” thanks to a new film about the award-winning musical. A behind-the-scenes Hamilton special will premiere on Disney+ and TheUndefeated.com on July 3rd. This is the same day that the filmed version of the musical will debut on [tempo-ecommerce src=”https://www.disneyplus.com/en-gb/movies/hamilton/3uPmBHWlO6HJ” title=”Disney+” context=”body”], letting viewers who didn’t get to see the Broadway play in person experience it in their own homes.
Hamilton In-Depth With Kelley Carter, according to ESPN, will feature interviews with Hamilton creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda, director Thomas Kail, and cast members Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Christopher Jackson, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Leslie Odom Jr., Okieriete Onaodowan, Anthony Ramos, and Phillipa Soo. The roundtable, which was filmed remotely, is hosted by Kelley Carter, a journalist for the ESPN site The Undefeated. (ESPN is owned by Disney, which explains how this collaboration came together.)
The film will feature conversations about the development of the play, its huge popularity, and the way the story connects to the world today, including with systemic racism and other forms of injustice in America.
“The cast of Hamilton didn’t come to play,” Carter said in a statement announcing the special.
“They are accomplished performers who created genre-shifting art, but they also understand this unprecedented time in history and why their voices matter,” Carter continued in the ESPN statement. “This special isn’t just about one of the most important pieces of work to ever play on Broadway. This is about how art inspires activation. And, well, how activation inspires great art.”
