Watch the ‘Hamilton’ Cast Reunite to Perform This Fan-Favorite Song from Home

We’re so into this. Leading up to the release of Hamilton on Disney+ this weekend, in celebration of America’s Independence Day, the original Broadway cast appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to give an at-home performance of “Helpless.” And as much as we adore you, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Leslie Odom, Jr. (and we do, we do, we do-oo), we’re living for this because it lets the wildly talented Phillipa Soo shine.

“The musical Hamilton is a story about hope, revolution, and love,” Fallon said to introduce the performance. “The story is as relevant now as is was back then.”

Fallon and the Roots joined Miranda, Odom Jr., Soo, Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and the rest of the original Hamilton cast to sing “Helpless” with instruments they found at home.

One notable moment: Diggs chimed in for a resounding “Boom,” giving an assist to Soo. (We don’t blame him; it’s one moment that we love to sing along with, too.) Watch the entire Zoom performance below:

Soo plays Elizabeth “Eliza” Schuyler, one of the famous Schuyler sisters. She sings “Helpless” to describe how she meets and subsequently marries Miranda’s Alexander Hamilton. It’s the companion song to “Satisfied,” which tells the story instead from Angelica Schuyler’s perspective (played by Goldsberry), who also falls for the titular character. Ahem, Jimmy Fallon: We’ll take a “Satisfied” virtual performance on the next show, please.

This Friday, June 3rd, Disney+ is also releasing a behind-the-scenes special about the making of Hamilton, so you can enter the “room where it happened.” It will feature interviews from director Thomas Kail, Miranda, and original cast members.

Watch Hamilton on Disney+ starting July 4th, and, until then, watch the “helpless” performance and practice your “I do, I do, I do, I do-oos” to belt along with Soo.
