Halsey had multiple surgeries this week for this incredibly common women’s health problem
For some women, period cramps are mildly painful and just annoying in general. For others, they cause serious debilitating pain which is often associated with endometriosis. Halsey opened up about her endometriosis and the surgeries she recently underwent to help treat it.
Her ordeal is definitely something many women can relate to.
The 22-year-old singer took to Instagram on Friday to discuss her battle with endometriosis and her surgeries.
"Today I braved multiple terrifying surgeries. The most important of which being the surgery that would hopefully treat my endometriosis," her post began. "For those of you who have followed this battle of mine or who may suffer with it yourself, you know the extremes to which it can be mentally exhausting and physically painful."
To combat the ongoing pain she feels from the endometriosis, she needed to have some procedures done. And she thanked her fans for being her strength.
But that doesn’t mean the surgeries aren’t tough, even for Halsey.
“OK HONESTLY I’m in total agony right now ??? (and I’m going to be in excruciating pain for a while cause I had quite the cocktail of procedures today),” Halsey wrote. “But in my recovery I am thinking of all of you and how you give me the strength and stamina to power through and prosper.”
She made note of the pain she’s in, but let everyone know that living with endometriosis is totally manageable.
"If you suffer from chronic pain or a debilitating disease please know that I have found time to live a crazy, wild, rewarding life AND balance my treatment and I hope so much in my heart that you can too," she added. "I'm gonna be off the map for a few days but please know even if I'm not on social media I am thinking of you."
According to WomensHealth.Gov, endometriosis affects at least 5 million women in the US alone. In addition to severe cramps, the condition can lower fertility if the benign growths scar your reproductive organs. In short, it sucks a lot, and treatments like Halsey’s are no fun.
Stay strong, Halsey. You got this.
