Halsey just started an important conversation about this condition that affects so many women
Since Halsey’s 2015 debut album Badlands, amazing things have been happening for her, including a U.S. summer tour this year and a brand new single. But although the 21-year-old is rockin’ her career, she also is taking the time to raise awareness for incredibly important issues, and we absolutely love her for it. Recently, the singer took to Twitter to share something incredibly personal: her battle with endometriosis.
“. . . If any of you suffer from endometriosis please know you aren’t alone,” she wrote in a screenshotted message attached to the tweet. “I know how excruciating[ly] painful it can be and how discouraging the disease can be.”
She expressed the pain of feeling limited, of missing school and work, or going to school or work “feeling like a prisoner in your own body”. . . coupled with the frustrating years of misdiagnoses and bad advice from doctors.
But it was a “bittersweet moment” when she was diagnosed, she explained, “because it meant I wasn’t crazy. . . I had every right to be feeling like the world was caving in.” She ended her tweet with a message for her fans who may be dealing with the debilitating physical and emotional pain of endometriosis: “Just know I’m here if you want to vent. I have managed to live a wild, incredible, and unpredictable life with Endo, and I’m here for you!”
Since tweeting yesterday, it’s been retweeted over 6,000 times, with dozens of her fans offering support and expressing their appreciation — especially those who are dealing with endometriosis, too (approximately 5 million women in the U.S.)
Thanks, Halsey, for opening up about something so deeply personal to help other women who are going through the same thing.
