Last-minute party snacks that win at Halloween

It’s the last day of October, which means it’s the last day to celebrate two of the coolest holidays ever: Halloween and National Dessert Day. Recently, when I found out that the entire month of October is National Dessert Month, I knew that I had to somehow celebrate in the form of DIY treats! After experimenting with all different types of candy, processed food, and even a melon baller, I’ve selected four of the cutest Halloween-inspired DIY treats to make for the holiday, or pretty much any other time you feel hungry (because, really, every month is national dessert month). These are all more crafting than cooking, so you could make them with your favorite five-year-old and be the best aunt or babysitter ever. Or make them with your friends or for a party and use the whole operation as an excuse to buy and eat stuff you normally wouldn’t!

Chocolate Cookie Witch Hats

You’ll need:

  • Fudge Stripe Cookies
  • Hershey’s Chocolate Kisses
  • Orange-Colored Frosting
  • Sprinkles

To make:

Spread orange-colored icing on the bottom of a Hershey’s kiss and press to attach it to the middle of an upside down fudge stripe cookie. Place assorted sprinkles on the rim of orange icing that should show when you press the kiss onto the cookie. They make for the cutest little treats!

Rest-In-Pudding Cups

You’ll need:

  • Chocolate Pudding Cups
  • Oreos
  • Black Gel Frosting Tube
  • Gummy Worms
  • Mellowcreme Pumpkins

To make:

Excuse the lame pun for the name, but these are actually my favorite of all of the treats! All you need to do is take one of the cookies off of an Oreo cookie, exposing the cream only, and trim two of the sides for a cool gravestone effect. With the black gel frosting, write “RIP” on the Oreo grave and stick it in the pudding cup. Arrange the gummy worms and pumpkins in the pudding cup for a cool and adorable Halloween graveyard scene.

Spider Web Cookies

You’ll need:

  • Sugar Cookie Mix (or your fave recipe)
  • Black Gel Frosting Tube
  • Sprinkles

To make:

Bake your sugar cookies and wait for them to cool. When they’re cooled, use the black gel frosting tube to draw on a spider web. You can experiment with different sizes, but these look especially cool if they are really big. I added an extra touch by creating a spider out of sprinkles, or you could write messages a la Charlotte’s Web!

Lollipop Ghosts

You’ll need:

  • Lollipops (preferably Tootsie Pops)
  • Tissues
  • Scissors
  • A Black Marker
  • Clear Elastics

To make:

Cut the edges off of a tissue. Place and center the tissue over a lollipop. Secure the candy and the tissue where the lollipop wrappers begin to twist with a white or clear elastic and draw a ghosts face with a black marker. Such a classic treat and everyone will want one!
