Hairspray Live’s “You Can’t Stop the Beat” was absolutely the highlight of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Thanksgiving is a very special holiday for musical theater nerds. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade gives us ALL the great new Broadway musical highlights. This year’s parade did not disappoint (Cats, you guys, CATS). We also got a bonus treat this year. Hairspray Live, NBC’s holiday musical event, gave us the gift of the show’s glorious closing number “You Can’t Stop The Beat.”
All the major cast members get a special moment in this number. Our musical theater obsessed hearts all but burst watching this very special number. Ariana Grande as Penny Pingleton! Jennifer Hudson as Motormouth Maybelle! Kristin Chenoweth as Velma Von Tussle! Derek Hough as Corny Collins! Harvey Fierstein making his triumphant return as Edna Turnblad! And Martin Short as Wilmer Turnblad! And last but NOT least, newcomer Maddie Baillio as our heroine Tracy Turnblad!
It’s impossible to watch this classic number and not feel your heart grow three sizes. The Hairspray Live cast totally slays and brings this bubbly and infectious number to life in the best way possible

The musical number was so A+++ it made us want to watch Hairspray Live NOW. Alas, we have to wait, But not for too much longer! Hairspray Live is coming at us December 7th on NBC!
