Even if you’re devoted to your deep conditioners, silk pillowcases, and elaborate care routines, hair loss is still a harsh reality faced by many women—in fact, half of all women suffer female pattern hair loss in their lives, and 40% of them do so before the age of 40. All that shedding can be caused by a number of factors, including pregnancy, stress, illness, or plain old genetics. There are a number of ways to combat hair loss, though, and TikTok users can’t get enough of one product in particular: The Ordinary’s Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density (Shop it! $18, sephora.com).
The serum is applied and massaged into the scalp daily and not washed out. It’s formulated with trademarked ingredients—redensyl, procapil, and baicapil—which target stem cells to improve hair density and increase blood flow to the scalp to encourage growth. And from the looks of a few before-and-afters shared by users on TikTok, it really works.
One user, @lorin.ds, posted a video that racked up 1.6 million views, showing how applying the serum for three months increased the volume of her hair at her temples. In a follow-up video, she shared that it’s best to apply the serum to a totally dry scalp at night. “I’ve found that this product literally grew new hair strands,” she said. “I’ve seen a lot more baby hairs here now.”
Other users have shared the same sentiment: @skincarealchemist first shared the product on TikTok in August 2020 in a video with over half a million views, dubbing it “the best product from The Ordinary” and saying that it made her hair grow like never before. It’s clear that the product is working for her—she shared in a more recent video that she stocked up on the hair growth serum in multiples. And there are plenty of other before-and-after videos that show just how impactful the product is: one posted by user @sarah_scotty showed how much it helped her hair grow over the past year, and another by @skincaring101 with 1.2 million views showed how much her hair filled out after a month of use.

Sephora shoppers also attest to the effectiveness of the Multi-Peptide Serum. “My 40-ish old hair has been ageing,” wrote one shopper with 4B textured hair. “I feel like it's improved the overall condition of my hair. It stays hydrated. Also, it soothes my scalp in a way that oils don't.”
Those with fine hair also recommend it. “I am already seeing baby hairs come in and my hair appears thicker,” wrote a shopper after using the product for two weeks, after using 10% minoxidil foam—a common topical hair loss treatment—to no avail. “I even had my husband point out to me today that my part appeared to not be as wide as it used to be. Plus, I no longer have a literal handful of hair come out when I shower every day.”
At $18, The Ordinary’s hair growth serum is a game-changer for those who struggle with thinning hair. A little patience—many reviewers say—goes a long way.
