Last summer, when Kaia Gerber chopped her long strands into a bob haircut, she called it a “drama cut,” and that’s the energy we’re hoping to bring into 2020. We’ve traded in beachy, mermaid hair for a back-to-business bob. And don’t worry—as these other celebrity bobs prove, there’s nothing boring about this throwback style.

Stars like Jordyn Woods and Ciara are sporting modern-looking asymmetrical bobs, while Emily Ratajkowski is going old Hollywood with hers. We had Kristen Bell go ever shorter with her razor sharp cut, and Selena Gomez rocked a never-before-seen retro look at the AMAs. New celebrity bobs are black, brunette, and blonde, and they’re super short or shoulder-grazing lobs. (And yes, okay, some are wigs, but they look incredible, so how could we leave them out?)

The bottom line: A bob can look stunning on all different hair types, textures, and colors.

“From clean-cut straight across and graduated bobs to disconnected and connected lines, bobs are super playful because there are so many different styles to choose from,” says celeb stylist Edward Tricomi, who expects to see more and more creative takes on the bob in 2020.

For style inspo, check out our favorite new celebrity bob cuts so you can send them over to your stylist.

The best celebrity bob haircuts, in our humble opinion:

Khloé Kardashian

Toning down her long, blonde locks, Khloé opted for a more muted, bronde bob with ’90s-style chunky highlights while attending best friend Malika Haqq’s baby shower.

Eva Mendes

Mendes is changing what it means to have a “mom bob” with this decidedly trendy cut.

Taylor Swift

Tay’s curly cropped bob at the Miss Americana premiere was truly swoon-worthy.

Camila Cabello

Okay, we know this was just for a music video look, but it was seriously a lewk. We wouldn’t be mad at all if Camila Cabello decided to actually go for a super short, retro bob.

Hillary Duff

In December, Duff rocked a blunt, bang-free, bob and looked effortless as usual.

Selena Gomez

We are not over this face-framing, voluminous bob from the American Music Awards.

We are also not over this chic, curly bob with bangs she debuted for the release of her beauty line, Rare Beauty. Stunning.

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato made a dramatic chop back in April, but, as an ever-changing hair chamelon, was back to her long locks at her 2020 Grammy Awards comeback performance.

She then appeared to have brought back the shorter ‘do again more recently, toying with an asymmetrical bob on her Instagram stories.

Kaia Gerber

Check out Gerber’s aforementioned “drama cut” which she debuted on her Instagram in June.

In December, Gerber went even shorter, with a straight, ear-grazing, angled chop that screams elegant-chic

Emilia Clarke

Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke ditched Daenerys Targaryen’s long, icy blonde locks and is now rocking a brunette bob. (But don’t worry, Emilia—to us, you’re still the Mother of Dragons.)

Kristen Bell

We’re obsessed with the ’90s vibes of Kristen Bell’s razor-sharp bob. We feel like Veronica Mars would approve. Plus, her stylist told us how to get her look.

Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba stepped out with a glorious rounded, clavicle-length bob complete with a bedazzled headband that looked effortlessly femme.

Millie Bobby Brown

We were getting some serious Dirty Dancing vibes from Milly Bobby Brown’s balayage bob.

Jordyn Woods

Jordyn’s bold, asymmetrical bob is so modern and chic. For anyone who thinks bobs are basic, let this one convince you otherwise.

Camila Mendes

It seems like Veronica Lodge was channeling Betty Cooper in this long bob, aka lob, wig, and fans were totally loving it.

Hailey Bieber

Earlier this summer, Bieber drastically chopped off her long hair, but then she went even more dramatic for an Interview magazine photoshoot. She debuted a brunette bob (which is probably a wig), and it seriously made us do a double-take because she’s so known for being a blonde.

Emily Ratajkowski

Though Emrata has already gone back to her long hair, we totally fell for this glam bob.

Reese Witherspoon

Witherspoon traded in her classic long locks for a “summer cut,” as she calls it. We love it so much, we think she should keep it going for autumn.

Ciara’s stacked bob is giving us ’90s Posh Spice energy, and we’re seriously in love. She debuted the look in an Instagram post on August 16th.

Kate Beckinsale

Since posting this haircut photo on July 26th, Beckinsale has kept the blonde bob look with dark roots. It seems she fell in love with the cut, and we can see why.

Michelle Williams

We feel like Michelle Williams growing out her signature pixie cut into a bob is a direct plan to bring her hair back to her Dawson’s Creek style, and we won’t be convinced otherwise.

Ashley Benson

The Pretty Little Liars actress introduced us to the “clavicle bob” that lightly grazes your collarbone, and we are really into it.

Priyanka Chopra

Also into a clavicle bob? Priyanka Chopra, who debuted her own shorter style in September.

Jennifer Lopez

At the premiere of Hustlers (give J.Lo the Oscar!), Lopez proved that the blonde bob trend was still thriving. Just look at it again, in a photo from her stylist.

Gabrielle Union

Speaking of blonde bobs, Gabrielle Union looked incredible in this color and cut switch-up.

Lucy Liu

The close-cropped cut, the waves…we love everything about this particular celebrity bob.

Elizabeth Banks

The Charlie’s Angels producer also went for pretty waves to join the blonde celebrity bob trend.

Bella Hadid

Okay, we know our eyes were supposed to be on the clothes during Milan Fashion Week, but we couldn’t stop looking at Bella Hadid’s new bob.

Maisie Williams

“A girl” went for a super cropped bob look at the Emmys, and we think Arya Stark would approve.

Kylie Jenner

Kylie Jenner is a hair chameleon, so we don’t know how long this bob that she debuted October 7th will last, but for now, she’s totally twinning with her sister Kim Kardashian West.

We’re inspired to go short! There’s no stopping the celebrity bob trend right now, so we already foresee more chops for winter 2019.
