One of our fave bands wants to bring back Lilith Fair, to which we say YASSSSSS

Most of us never set foot inside Lilith Fair, the traveling feminist music festival founded by Sarah “Queen of the Plaintive 90s Ballad” McLachlan and her badass music buds, a musical wonderland that existed from 1997 to 1999 and featured so many of our 90s faves: McLachlan (natch), Fiona Apple, Indigo Girls, Jewel, Sheryl Crow, The Cardigans, Emmylou Harris, Erykah Badu, Natalie Merchant, Missy Elliot, Neneh Cherry, Sinéad O’Connor, Queen Latifah,  The Pretenders, Bonnie Raitt, Lauryn Hill, Martina McBride, The Dixie Chicks,  the list goes on.

Though there was a brief revival in 2010, Lilith Fair has by and large been declared a relic of the 90s. But one of our favorite feminist bands on the scene today, the one and only HAIM, is out to change all that.

As Vulture reports, at the New Yorker Festival, one of the Haim sisters, Este Haim spoke to music critic Kelefa Sanneh about her dream of a 21st  century lady-centric music fest.

“We talk about this all the time, how there aren’t enough female-represented bands and artists at festivals,” Este told Kelefa. ” You don’t see them. And it’s really sad for us. We came up with the idea basically of why can’t we just bring back a festival that’s just ladies. Not that we don’t love the boys. Love the men.”

Este didn’t get to go to Lilith Fair back in the day (I mean, she was kind of busy being in middle school), but she saw a lot of the acts perform live individually, and these women inspired her hard.

“I did see Melissa Ethridge in concert, I saw Sarah McLachlan in concert, I saw Paula Cole in concert, and Sheryl Crowe. All these amazing ladies had such an amazing outlet and place to play music, and it was really beautiful and I feel like that’s not really available anymore and that outlet isn’t there. We talk semi-jokingly but semi-seriously about making it happen. So stay tuned. I think that would be really magical.”

And in case you’re wondering who would play at Haim’s dream fest, Este’s got the lineup all planned out. As Vulture reports, the fest would include acts like “Lorde, Florence and the Machine, Savages, Chvrches, Haim mentor Jenny Lewis, and Taylor Swift.” Um, yes, we want tickets to this fest, like, yesterday.

So, we’ll just keep our eyes peeled for more news and pounce on tickets the second they are on sale. Because this fest HAS to happen. It sounds way too wonderful not to become real life.
