Hailee Steinfeld’s futuristic outfit at the Billboard Music Awards has us thinking about life on Mars

There were a lot of red carpet moments last night at the Billboard Music Awards that have kept people talking all day long. But there’s one ensemble we feel isn’t getting the attention it deserves: Hailee Steinfeld’s sleeveless, futuristic, cut-out gown designed by David Koma. The actress and singer has been ruling the red carpet since she was a tween, and her fashion choices only get better and better. This year at the BBMAs, she showed a different side of her fashion sense — and we dig it.

Steinfeld opted for a silver-and-black patterned, high-neck sheer dress with black stiletto boots.

At first glance, it looks like the dress is only silver, but a closer look reveals that it has pinkish hues, especially when the light reflects off of it.

The pattern of this 3/4-length dress looks like it came straight out of outer space. The shapes look like they could morph into life-giving organisms at any given moment. The coolest part is that the whole front of the dress is actually see-through, so you can see Steinfeld’s high-waisted black undergarments, which match her nails.

But the back of the dress is the real surprise. The slit in the back allows you to see Steinfeld’s thigh-high boots, which have a silvery sole. She looks like she’s a fashionista who belongs on planet Mars, right?!

Steinfeld is known for her long, luscious brown hair, and last night she let it flow down her back in beautiful mermaid waves. And instead of having her locks frame her face, she had her hair swept back so you can see every inch of her jawline.

We saw a lot of nude makeup at the BBMAs, and Steinfeld showed off this trend as well. Her eyebrows were full and bold, as always, and her skin looked flawless with just a touch of blush on her cheeks. Her eyes were finished off in a smoky gray-and-black style, and we are *loving* those nude lips.

Continue to slay, Haiz, because you are ~the future~.
