Gwyneth Paltrow’s opinion on exercise is shifting, and that’s totally okay

Even though we try to have it all, that isn’t always possible. Even celebrities sometimes need to slow things down. But we were surprised to hear one celeb with a particularly vigorous routine says she was scaling back. Gwyneth Paltrow admitted she can’t exercise two hours per day anymore like she used to and beyond that, she’s tired of the grueling exercise pace she once used to swear by. Gwyneth has always been serious and pretty intense about keeping herself healthy, but she can’t keep up her routine the way she used to. And that’s okay. Now, she’s a great example of how our lives can evolve, and we shouldn’t feel bad about it.

In an interview with The Edit, Gwyneth Paltrow admits that her workout routine isn’t as intense as it used to be.

Gwyneth revealed to The Edit, "I used to exercise for two hours a day...An hour of cardio and an hour of weights. But there’s just no time anymore. I’m getting old, my back hurts!"

Can we just say, at age 44, Gwyneth looks amazing? Plus, with two kids and a massive career, we can’t believe Gwyneth juggles as much as she does. But these days, something had to give, so she’s shortened her workouts. But don’t worry, she still takes Tracy Anderson’s hour and fifteen-minute class. So it’s not like she gave up on fitness. She’s just trying to balance her life more.

Gwyneth didn’t always have such an easy-going view of fitness, which just shows how much our lives can evolve.

In fact, in the past, Gwyneth had an almost inhuman devotion to her workouts. We totally respected her dedication, but we knew we could never take our fitness to quite that level.

Gwyneth told Oprah in 2009, “It’s worth it to me to do that extra exercise so I can eat what I want and not think about it.”And in 2013, she told Marie Claire UK, “A lot of days I don’t want to do it but I literally force myself, it’s sheer will. I just force myself to make it a part of my day and I try not to even listen to the doubts.” Clearly, she’s evolved a lot in her ideas about how hard to push herself. But these days, Gwyneth knows that pushing too far can have ramifications on her body.

She told The Edit, "Some days, the gym gives me this rush of energy and I feel amazing, but then my body’s like, ‘F*** you.'"

We’re glad Gwyneth has found a more relaxed way to look at exercise.

Because we think exercise should be fun. So whatever you want to do to stay healthy, go for it. An important part of being healthy is keeping your life balanced and happy.
